The beach of Serín is located to the east of Cape and Islet of San Lorenzo. It’s one of the beaches of the municipality of Gijón, easy to find but not quite crowded in high season due to it being hidden behind high cliffs where the sun shines only in the morning.
Oh, and you have to sweat a little to get there (but it’s well worth it in my opinion) !!
It can be reached on foot from the Estaño beach on a newly constructed path called Camino de Estaño or by car, Serín having a small parking built on top of the cliffs. There you will also find a small picnic area.
The municipality of Gijon recently built a coastal trail that unites all its beaches but only the urban ones have parking so you’ll have to walk to the others – leaving the car in a bigger parking and then walking along the coastline is the better option in the summer, especially during weekends.
Serín is a nudist beach with no amenities but with lifeguard in high season.
If you happen to get lost while searching for Serín, our beach app AsturPlaya can take you there, download it now and discover the coastline of Gijón!
Some extra info about Serín
Serín is a 610 meters wide beach of sand and rocks, not very popular and not accessible for people with disabilities.
It lacks amenities and a nearby parking but you can park the car on the cliffs and walk to the beach (the path to the beach is not the typical trail, there are stairs all the way down. The problems is that… there are many of them!)
A word of caution about Serín
Serín completely disappears with high tide and is pretty full of rocks because of the huge storms washing the shore this winter (2013-2014) and causing lots of landslides at most of the Asturias beaches.
The landslides at Serín were particularly serious during 2014 and there is a warning placed by authorities on the stairs – I urge you to be cautious when climbing down to Serín.
The last portion of the stairs built was also destroyed by the sea and you might be forced to jump from rock to rock till the sandy area – it is what it is and I suspect it might take a while till this beach will be, once again, ready to receive tourists.
