Santa Marina is a long beach of fine sand located in the town of Ribadesella, to the left of the river Sella estuary.
It’s an urban beach surrounded by a promenade considered one of the main attractions of the Eastern side of Asturias, along with the towns of Llanes and Cangas de Onís/Arriondas.
So expect to see a crowded beach and promenade during the summer months but don’t be put of by the amount of tourists – Ribadesella is a must see if you come to Asturias, a city with its own identity, gastronomy and culture.
Some extra info about Santa Marina beach
As I have already said it’s an urban beach which means it has all the amenities you need: showers, toilets, parking, lifeguard, hotels, bars and restaurants. You name it, Ribadesella has it.
It’s a really long beach for this part of Asturias: 1150m long and 63m wide, with golden sand and medium waves perfect for the entire family, surfers, fishermen, etc.
Santa Marina actually has more than one beach in its vicinity (hmmm, should I tell you about La Atalaya beach? )
But don’t worry, if you don’t want to miss any hidden beaches around Ribadesella our beach app Asturplaya can unveil them for you and take you to each and every one of them!
The river Sella flows into the sea in Ribadesella and it’s the host of the famous The Sella descent – an international competition where you have to descent the river in a canoe from Arriondas. The first one crossing the finish line in Ribadesella takes the big prize and all the corresponding honors.
You can say it’s more than a competition, it’s a festival that starts a few days before the first Sunday of August and ends with concerts and fireworks.
