Merón beach is a shell shaped beach located at the mouth of the Merón river between the parishes of Careñes and Argüero.
It’s a rather small beach (200 meters wide) of boulders, gravel and sand (more at low tide) with no amenities, lifeguard during high season only and a quite small parking that gets extended during the high season (normally by letting you park on the nearby grass fields surrounding the beach – but not always for free!).
I must warn you that all the beaches in the municipality of Villaviciosa are really crowded during the summer months (weekends mostly), this one being no exception.
Merón can be reached by car from the nearby villages and is very easy to find – our beach app AsturPlaya can take you there, download it and explore the beaches of Asturias!
An interesting thing about this beach is that it’s situated along the so-called “Dinosaur footprints path”, the coastline of Villaviciosa, Colunga, Ribadesella being famous for their dinosaur footprints, most of them very well preserved (I like most the ones at the La Griega beach because they are extremely visible from a viewpoint built right above them).
