El Murallón beach is also known as the Maleguas beach because it’s located right at the end of the Maleguas street. The name Murallón refers to the old concrete wall that existed on this beach until not so long ago (in English Murallón means “Big Wall”), a trace of it still being visible in the water.
Some people consider this beach part of the bigger one called Anguileiro beach because with really low tide a lot of small beaches form a really extended sandy area.
With high tide you will discover that this cove shelters around 4 beaches, each a little bit different from the other and with its own access.
Some maps will show you here one big beach, some will show you 2 or more – our beach app for smartphones AsturPlaya will show them all to you and even some hidden neighbors 🙂
El Murallón is a 75 meters long urban beach surrounded by an impressive promenade that encircles the entire cove. You have thus access to bars, restaurants, hotels and shops.
It does not have its own parking but you will be able to park your car near Anguileiro or in the city. It has some amenities and also benefits from the ones of Anguileiro so it has lifeguard, showers and toilets.
It is also accessible for people with limited mobility and the entire cove of Tapia is a place where surfers find good waves.
Important: the pictures above were taken in March 2014, right after a string of storms washed away the sand of the entire cove and filled it with rocks. The sand slowly returned and the rocks were moved towards the stairs in order to increase the sandy area.
