This beach is known by many names: Anguileiro – due to a river called Anguileiro flowing into the sea right here – but also Los Campos (“The fields”) or La Grande (“The big one“).
It’s an extensive urban beach situated into a cove that hosts another 3 smaller beaches that unite at low tide into one amazingly big sandy area – you won’t even notice there are more than one beach here (on Google Maps you can actually see it with low tide, when all 4 become one).
There are 2 entry points to this beach: an accessible one right along the river, where the lifeguard is (but I haven’t seen any parking there) and one right along the main road dividing the town (Avenida General Primo de Rivera – see the picture to the left) which does have a lot of places to park you car.
Even so, during the summer months and/or weekends this beach is really crowded so do not count on finding a place to park here.
If you’re visiting Asturias in a caravan you should know that there is a caravans area nearby, but not quite facing the beach. There is also a camping to the West, also not very close but enough.
Extra info about Anguileiro beach
400 meters long beach with lots of amenities and a daily lifeguard service during the summer months. It is a good fishing spot and is perfect for surf, being one of the beaches constantly hosting surf competitions in Asturias.
There’s a promenade built upon the cliffs surrounding the Tapia cove (parallel to Avenida General Primo de Rivera) that will take you to all the beaches starting from this one (Los Campos) then to El Murallón beach (the one surrounded by concrete stairs) then La Furada beach and finally at La Ribeiría beach (the one with the surf boards sculpture).
If you need help finding all of them, don’t worry: our beach app AsturPlaya can take you there, download it now!
